Abigale Lee
Miller (born on 21 September 1965), is an American choreographer teacher, dance
instructor, and reality TV star. Abby Lee Dance Company was established by her.
It was a part of eight seasons of the show Dance Moms. Miller admitted in June
of 2016 to fraudulent bankruptcy in the felony category. Miller was sentenced
for one and two-and-a-half years in federal prison. She was released on March
27, 2018. In April of 2018, she was diagnosed with lymphoma which is a kind of
cancer that makes it difficult for people to walk. She now uses a wheelchair to
move around. Miller was born in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania. She was a dancer who
was a student under her mother at Maryen Lorrain Dance Studio. In the year
1980, aged 14, Miller was assigned the task for choreographing and coaching for
one of her mother's dance teams. Miller eventually took over the studio in 1995
and changed the name to the company Reign Dance Productions. Miller was
accredited by Dance Masters of America in 1986 and was made an official part of
Dance Masters of Pennsylvania Chapter 10 in February 2012. However Miller's
membership was terminated by the DMA in February 2012 after the DMA declared
that Miller's reality TV show Dance Moms was "a complete false
representation of teachers and students of dance and is detrimental for the
dance industry."
