Susan Sarandon Bio

It was just after the 1968 Democratic convention There was an audition to a film that had several parts that were aimed at young people who had disrupted convention. Two recent graduates of Catholic University in Washington DC, went to the audition in New York for Joe (1970). Chris Sarandon was not selected in spite of having prior studies in acting. His wife Susan got a major role.That character was Susan Compton as the daughter of an ad executive Bill Compton (Dennis Patrick). Dad Bill kills Susan’s drug dealer boyfriend. Then, Joe (Peter Boyle) an obnoxious gangster who works in an assembly line and has a collection of guns, befriends Susan. Five years later, Sarandon plays the role in the film. Janet is a transvestite who falls in love with Dr. Frank n Furter (1975). After more than fifteen years, Sarandon finally actively campaigned for Annie in Bull Durham (1988), flying herself between Rome to Los Angeles at her expense. She stated "It was an amazing script... it eliminated a myriad of stereotypes and challenged the American definition of success". "I had a few hours there with Kevin Costner, sex some actors in the studio, and then hopped back on the plane. Tim Robbins (1988), her Bull Durham supporting actor, had already given birth to two sons by 1992 which made Sarandon into a position where she could leave home and accept difficult roles. The result was four Academy Award nominations in the 1990s as well as the award for best actress for Dead Man Walking (1995). Her first Academy Award nomination was for Louis Malle's Atlantic City (1980).
