Ronny Chieng
Ronny Xin Yi
Chieng born on 21 November 1985. Chieng is currently a Senior Correspondent for
The Daily Show, Comedy Central. Chieng is the creator and the star of the
sitcom Ronny Chieng International Student. It debuted on ABC Australia as well
as Comedy Central Asia in 2017. Chieng was born in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, to a
Malaysian Chinese family. Chieng was born in Singapore as well as the United
States. He lived in Manchester, New Hampshire, from 1989 to 1994. Chieng
appeared in a comedy festival held in Melbourne, Australia in 2013 together
with Trevor Noah. The following year, he was asked to be a candidate for the
correspondent position on The Daily Show, which Noah hosts. He was named one
the top 10 Comics to follow by Variety in July of 2016. In October of 2016,
Chieng appeared as a guest on The Daily Show to offer a response to the Jesse
Watts Fox News segment that many believed was racist. Chieng expressed his
opinion with a lot of expletive regarding the segment on conservative network
Fox News. He also visited NewYork City's Chinatown where Watters ridiculed
residents. The video became viral and received attention in the Washington Post
and Slate In his early years, Chieng was a Singapore Sea Scout. Though he's
lived in Australia for more than a decade, he doesn't have permanent residency
or citizenship status in Australia. Chieng laughed in 2018 when he said there
was a phobia of cynophobia, however, he afterwards, he said he was completely
unafraid of dogs.
